Newfoundland Woodland Caribou Hunting Trips

If a Newfoundland Caribou Hunting trip and the call of the wild beckons, and you are a person who thrives on outdoor pursuits, through vast areas of ageless, prime, pristine wilderness and are in search of a hunting experience like no other, then Newfoundland Outfitting has exactly what you need. Ray Humber offers Newfoundland woodland caribou hunting trips to fulfill your dream of harvesting a trophy caribou in beautiful country.

High populations of Newfoundland woodland caribou forage the boreal forest and roam the high plateaus of our remarkable island. The only place in the world to pursue this magnificent animal is while caribou hunting in Newfoundland! The woodland caribou is indigenous to Newfoundland and differs from the "Barrens Caribou" sporting exquisite antlers of slightly less mass, but more points than its relative, which makes for a beautiful trophy mount. In spite of the high populations of woodland caribou in Newfoundland, caribou hunting can still be very challenging.

A successful caribou hunter.

Newfoundland woodland caribou hunting is done in terrain that consists of wooded slopes and rolling hills with valleys that may have long sections of tundra. Using primarily spot and stalk techniques, while caribou hunting in Newfoundland, hunters are able to size up the animal prior to stalking to within rifle or archery range. There are few sights in the hunting world more impressive than the sight of a mature Newfoundland woodland caribou bull as he crosses an opening in the forest. Weighing in at up to 500 pounds and adorned with dark crowned antlers, the Newfoundland woodland caribou is a sight to behold. Many trophy class woodland caribou are harvested each year in Newfoundland. The Woodland Caribou mating season or rut begins during mid October and will normally run for two to three weeks.

Newfoundland covers some 42,000 square miles with the majority of its inhabitants living along the coast. The vast interior of the province consists primarily of wilderness which is rich in big game animals like the Newfoundland woodland caribou, Newfoundland moose and Newfoundland black bear. Newfoundland caribou hunting offers non resident hunters an unequaled opportunity to come to this pristine island to hunt the awesome “Woodland Caribou”.

The sight of a mature Newfoundland Woodland Caribou will remain in a hunter's memory for the rest of his life as will the entire Newfoundland Caribou hunting experience. Newfoundland woodland caribou hunting allows a hunter success rates that are high due to the large population on the island. We are situated on the shore of a lake which stretches five (5) miles, buffered by large stands of forested land. Above the trees are barren plateaus (woodland caribou hunting terrain). We have one satellite hunting camp which is a comfortable three (3) miles from the main moose hunting lodge. This camp is located on a small lake shore.

There are points of trees left around cut-over areas to provide cover for the animals. Moose love these areas because of the incredible biomass of young deciduous trees and undergrowth. We have miles and miles of wilderness terrain for caribou hunting!!! Outdoorsmen being fairly aggressive while Newfoundland Caribou hunting should see approximately 25 Newfoundland moose and 35 Newfoundland Woodland caribou during a normal week of hunting. For the average person Caribou hunting, 30% to 40% of animals taken will be classified as trophies. This percentage can rise if the caribou hunter is willing to work a little harder and has the physical ability to cover more of our beautiful Newfoundland Woodland Caribou Hunting country.
