Newfoundland Bull Moose

Newfoundland moose hunting: Newfoundland is an island that boasts the highest densities of moose in the entire world! The largest member of the deer family, as well as the largest elk, the Canadian moose is by far the most popular big-game animal in Newfoundland. Newfoundland moose hunting started after the moose were introduced to the province at the turn of the twentieth century and provincial moose population now exceeds 125,000 strong! This large ungulate stands taller than a large saddle horse and often weighs in excess of 1500 pounds.

Fortunately for Newfoundland moose hunters, moose hunting season in Newfoundland coincides with the moose mating season or rut which runs from late September to early November. It is during this special time that Newfoundland moose hunting guides and outfitters are often able to call a big bull moose to within easy rifle or archery range. The sight and sound of a big paddle horn bull moose coming through the brush looking for love is something that a hunter will never forget. For moose hunting, it just doesn't get much better than Newfoundland and Ray Humber’s terrific Newfound Outfitting. Many hunters consider the Newfoundland bull moose with his massive body size and huge headgear to be the ultimate trophy animal. As an added bonus to moose hunting in Newfoundland, the woodland caribou season runs concurrently which allows the moose hunter to harvest a woodland caribou if he chooses to do so. While hunting moose in Newfoundland one can expect to have the ultimate outdoor experience. Not only are Newfoundland moose populations high, but outdoorsman will get to hunt in some of the most beautiful terrain they have ever encountered. With dense forests and gin clear rivers, streams and lakes, it is very easy to understand why the Newfoundland moose flourish in the wilderness. For the successful hunter a beautiful set of antlers for his or her wall is not the only bounty. The memories of a Newfoundland moose hunting trip will stay with the hunter for the rest of his life.... and the meat from the moose makes wonderful table fare. There is simply no better place in the world or a better outfitter for moose hunting in Newfoundland than Ray Humber.

Newfoundland Moose Hunting Trips & Lodge Particulars: Our Newfoundland moose hunting trips are only a short drive via a logging road to our lodge. There is a short walk from the parking area to the main lodge. We are situated on the shore of a lake which stretches five (5) miles, buffered by large stands of forested land. Above the trees are barren plateaus (caribou terrain). We have one satellite camp which is a comfortable three (3) miles from the main lodge. This camp is located on a pond shore. The distance between the main lodge and this camp is made up of a series of small ponds and open marshland (ideal moose habitat).

Very Successful season, Everyone had 100% opportunity to shoot, Look forward to great season in 2008.
There are points of trees left around cut-over areas to provide cover for the animals. Newfoundland Moose love these areas because of the incredible biomass of young deciduous trees and undergrowth. We have miles and miles of wilderness terrain to hunt!!! A fairly aggressive hunter should see approximately 25 moose and 35 caribou during a normal week of hunting. For the average hunter, 30% to 40% of animals taken are classified as Newfoundland trophy bull moose. This percentage can rise if the hunter is willing to work a little harder. Call Ray at Newfound Outfitting today for your Newfoundland Moose Hunting trips and lets go hunting.
